Der Messisas is a poem which comprises of 19,458 dactylic hexameters. Thematically, the poem deals withredemption of mankind and the poemopens with Jesus's entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. This poem is Klopstock's best known work. Condition: In half calf bindings with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with small patches ofminor rubbing to the extremities and to the joints. A small amount of slight rubbing to the head and tail of spines and to the paper coveredboards. Binder's stamp to front pastedowns, John Bird Hatton Garden. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedowns of volumes I and III, John C Taunton. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with handling marks throughout. Spotting throughout, heavier to the centre. Overall: VERY GOOD..
