About This Item
London: George Bell & Sons, 1898. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. London, George Bell & Sons, 1898. Octavo, xvi, 206, [1] (colophon) pages with a frontispiece and decorated title page (both printed in red and black) and 62 illustrations (26 full-page) plus pictorial endpapers; all decorations and illustrations are by A. Garth Jones. Gilt- and dark green-pictorial light green cloth lettered in gilt; top edge dyed light green, others uncut (and now a little chipped); cloth very lightly rubbed, bumped and marked, with minor loss of gilt to one letter on the front cover; endpapers and adjacent leaves offset; occasional light foxing; tiny creased tear to the bottom margin of one plate neatly sealed; an excellent copy. Although this is an early work by Alfred Garth Jones (1872-1955), it would appear to be one of his more significant endeavours.
