Printed for Edward and Charles Dilly, 1777-01-01. Hardcover. Acceptable. 0x0x0. 2 volume set. Full contemporary leather binding. Hinges cracked. Boards detached. Marbled end pages. Contemporary book plate of William Priestman, Princess-street Soho London. v. 1. Memoirs of Lord Chesterfield. Lord Chesterfield's miscellaneous pieces --v. 2. Lord Chesterfield's letters to his friends. Book I. Letters written in French, and translated into English. Book II. Letters to Solomon Dayrolles, of Henley-Park, esq; and to some other friends in England. Book III. Letters to Dr. Richard Chenevix, lord bishop of Waterford, and to some other friends in Ireland. By M. Maty, M.D. late principal librarian of the British museum and secretary to the Royal society. Dr. Maty died after completing the first five sections of the Memoirs, with the exception of a few passages and some notes. He left a rough draft of part of the last section and headings for the remainder. J.O. Justamond, his son-in-law, completed the editing. cf. Dictionary of national biography.
