The Miser is an entertaining French play by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin or also known by his pseudonym, Moliere, he is a French dramatist and playwright, a best-known comedy writer. The Miser is a five-act comedy, first played at the theatre of the Palais-Royal in Paris.

The fictional characters of the play are: Harpagon, an oppressive father of Cleante and Elise. He is the main character of the play, he is the materialistic miser who loves his cash and properties more than his son and daughter. His job is to lend money with higher rates. The materialistic miser is in love with Mariane, whom his son also admires.
