Philadelphia: Presbyterian Board Of Education, 1842. 8vo. xx, 555 pp. Original gilt-stamped cloth. Illustrated throughout, also with three maps (two fold-out).Condition: The book, maps and binding are in excellent condition, but there is some marginalia in pencil throughout.
The deputation from the Committee of the Church of Scotland for the Conversion of the Jews visited Alexandria, Jerusalem, Hebron, Gideon, Sychem, Samaria, Carmel, Galilee, Tiberius, Constantinople and also inquired into the condition of the Jewish communities in Wallachia, Moldavia, Poland, Prussia, Hamburg, France, Italy, Greece, and Malta. The mission also estimated the size of the Jewish populations in the cities and villages of these regions.
