Covers have slight rubbing to the outer corners, lower edges, and spine ends. ; Signed by the author in pencil on the title page. Also inscribed by him, in pencil, on a front blank "For Prof. Elihu Root With the New Years Compliments of his cousin The Author 1877". Alos included is a handwritten letter, three pages, folded, on mourning stationary "My dear Mr Lyman, ... Thank you for all the kind things you say of my dear husband, ..." Signed E. L. Holland, dated December 25th, 1881. .
