Condition is VERY GOOD+, with some very slight bending to ends of spines, corners very slightly worn, some faint staining on both covers. Owner�s large bookplate in 1 and 2 (messy glue to one). From the stacks (non-circulating) of a library, published as a soft cover and later rebound in this hard cover by the library because of its historical importance toi British Columbia. The sub-title is "The Story of Walter Moberly and his share in the making of Vancouver," and the authors are stated to be Noel Robinson and "THE OLD MAN HIMSELF." Walter Moberly (1832–1915) was a civil engineer and surveyor who played a large role in the early exploration and development of British Columbia, including discovering Eagle Pass, now used by the CPR and the trans-Canada highway. The edges are stained red, marbled endpapers, engraved frontispiece with tissue guard. The appendix has two essays on blank verse. There is a previous owner's engraved bookplate and a previous owner's inscription dated 1882. The marbled boards are rubbed and a bit worn on the edges. Locale: Italy. Dark green cloth with beveled edges, each volume with elaborate illustrations in gilt and silver on the cover and spine. All edges gilt, color plate, photographs, illustrations, folding color map, index. Some wear at the edges and corners, and the map repaired with archival tissue. In mylar wrappers, the set is bright and the folding map clean. Locale:. (Arctic/Polar, Expeditions--Polar, Exploration--Arctic, Norwegian Polar Expedition 1893-1896).

First House edition of this famous report. 1845. Complete in original binding except for the gigantic map which is available in full size color thick glossy paper professional reproduction ($25 extra if desired). Pagination: 583 pages, 22 plates, 4 maps, all blanks present. Includes fascinating pencil diagram of oil rig on back of map. Oil rig drawing titled "Sheffield Oil Company. Warren(?), Co., Pa." That pencil drawing is the only interior writing or ownership marking anywhere in the book. Condition is a mixed bag. Original half leather marbled boards show heavy wear and looks like they were professionally rehinged in the distant past. Binding is sound. Pages show moderate to heavy toning and foxing. Some plates have weird 'dot' foxing I have never seen elsewhere (see scan). Marbled endpapers. A nice well maintained copy suitable for reading and research with a cool drawing.
