About This Item
London: Herbert Jenkins, 1946. 1st UK. h/b. Very good, 1st UK edition, stated 1st printing, missing d/j, grey boards, text block firm but gutters a little loose; pages unmarked and clean.. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). First published in the USA in 1942, UK readers had to wait until 1946 before its publication due to suspicions about Wodehouse's possible collaboration with the Nazi regime. Not too long after George, 6th Viscount Uffenham, hit upon the brilliant idea of stashing away the family fortune in diamonds, he forgot where he had hidden them. Forced to let out Shipley Hall, he is now left with the problem of how to recover the loot.
