Chatto & Windus, 1902. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Good to very good floral decorated cloth boards with gilt titles to spine. Spine darkened, light rubbing to edges. Some foxing to edges of text block and to pages, mainly to early and latter pages but with occasional spotting throughout. Occasional light pencil lines to margins and some pencil notes to rear end paper (easily removed if necessary) First published in French in 1891, this novel in The Rougon Macqart series could have easily been written in the twenty first century and the description of the scenes and activities in the Bourse are very reminiscent of the current World Stock Markets and equally as disgusting.
