The Moral of Flowers by Rebecca Hey - 1835

London, Leeds: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, and Green and Longman; and M Robinson, 1835 A fair copy of the second edition of this relatively scarce work by Rebecca Hey (who is not named on the title page), with 24 hand coloured plates. The half morocco leather and buckram binding has gilt titles and decoration to the spine. It is complete but worn, and there is a pasted label 'The Property of St Cyres Guest House, Jersey' to the bottom of the front board. There is bumping to corners and the back board is a little bubbly and grubby. Internally, the original endpapers are present with an ink signature dated 1909 to the front pastedown. The stitching is holding, but there is a split after the fep, between that and a preliminary blank. With half title (small ink signature to top); title page; advertisement to the second edition in which the author states that this edition is corrected and contains more poems; preface; contents and plate list; text and 24 hand coloured plates. The contents are very shaken and plate 9 is present, but detached. Plate 19 has a little marking, but generally the plates and text are very clean. Plate 24 has a creased tissue-guard. There is the odd spot or mark, but a binding repair would produce a very good copy.
