Frankfurt a M.,: Varrentrap & Wenner,, 1795.. xv, [i, blank], 223, [i, blank] pp. 8vo (12,5 x 21 cm.). 19th century boards, spine gilt lettered on green morcco label (partly rubbed & slightly worn; corners slightly bumped). First edition, rare. Garrison & Morton 2609.1: "Soemmerring noted an association between pipesmoking and cancer of the lip (p. 109)". PP. 183-223 are a chronological list (1509-1794) of 313 works on absorbing vessels and related subject. This list is concluded by an alphabetically index on authors. Soemmerring, a very able anatomist, was a believer in the ancient notion that man's soul was housed in the cerebrospinal fluid. --(paper slighly age-toned; some scattered light foxing; small hole in the blank porting of the title-page; some slight dust soiling).
