London: Jonathan Cape , 1936. First edition. Leather. Very Good Indeed/Good. 9" by 6". Francis Dodd . A scarce first, limited edition copy of A. E. Houseman's final selection of poetry, published posthumously. The scarce first edition. Limited to 379 copies, this being number 15. In a quarter morocco binding with gilt detail, alongside the original, unclipped dust wrapper. With a monochrome portrait frontispiece. The last selection of A. E. Housman's poetry, published posthumously and edited by Housman's brother, Laurence. Including titles such as, 'The Sage to the Young Man', and, 'When Israel out of Egypt came'. Alfred Edward Housman was an English classical scholar and poet, best known for his poetry collection titled, 'A Shropshire Lad'. The half title page is present. With the previous owner's ink signature to the front blank. In quarter morocco binding. Externally, very smart with some light shelf wear to the edges. Light marks to the boards and spine with some slight darkening to the upper boards. The original unclipped dust wrapper is a trifle rubbed. Chipping to the edges with loss to the spine. Puncture to the lower spine, with some loss. Spine is darkened with some fading to the edges of the panels. Light marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with scattered spots and the odd handling mark throughout. Previous owner's ink signature to the front blank. Very Good Indeed
