Folio Society, London, limited edition, 2003. Limited edition of 1000 numbered copies. Nigerian goatskin, gold-blocked cover design, all edges gilt, in black clamshell box, 4to,. 624 pp, illustrations and headpieces , initials, etc by Aubrey Beardsley. A splendidly produced limited edition with the text and illustrations reproducing the third (and most complete) J M Dent edition of 1927, save that certain preliminary material is omitted and replaced by an accompanying essay by Anthony S. G. Edwards "Thomas Malory, the Morte Darthur and Aubrey Beardsley " ( a 16 page pamphlet). The text of Le Morte D'Arthur is a modern-spelling version of Caxton's edition of 1485. Aubrey Beardsley - on his first professional commission - produced a vast array of illustrations - 20 full-or double-page spreads, 240 chapter headings, 43 ornamental borders , 25 initial letters, 19 small ornaments and 4 headpieces. Copy No. 163. As new in in publisher's box, which is a trifle lightened at one edge.
