A collection of some of the most famous &/or beloved Mother Goose rhymes, lavishly illustrated throughout the 144 pages with both colorful & pen-and-ink sketches by Swiss-born artist Roger Duvoisin, who would later win a Caldecott for his children's book illustrations. Two-page Note by the compiler/editor in front, Index by First Lines in rear. A FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1936, this large 4to (10 x 13") is bound in decorative yellow cloth, which shows a heavy dampstain to spine & spotting/soil/fading to both boards. Despite these external flaws, it is internally very clean, binding secure (though stitching is loosening in places), both hinges intact. Pages creamy white with age-appropriate tanning to all edges.
