Description:
New York: Doubleday & Co. Inc., 1954. Preface by Raymond Coche Chief of the French Mountaineering Mission to the Hoggar 1935. In the vast granite range of the Tefedest Massif in the Hoggar region of the Sahara, earlier French explorers had discovered the site of amazingly beautiful prehistoric drawings. The authors , two young French archeologists, along with a photographer, an artist and a few tempermental but charming natives were determined to rediscover the site. They achieved complete success but only at the espense of learning the ways of the desert. The story of their mission makes fascinating reading and has been written with contagious enthusiasm for the mysterious, desolate Sahara and a good-humored understanding of the people who inhabit it. Illustrated with maps, illustrations and b/w photos. Glossary of native words. Photographic price-intact dust jacket.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
