About This Item

London: Hodder and Stoughton , 1910. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 10" by 7.5". G. Denholm Armour. A profusely illustrated work, with lectors taken from R. S Surtees original work 'Handley Cross'. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt details to the spine and front board. Written by Robert Smith Surtees. Surtees was a journalist and novelist of the 19th century. Interestingly his work was not incredibly popular with his contemporaries, and his remained one of the lesser known authors of the 19th century. This being said, unlike many of his literary counterparts, Surtees has maintained a small yet strong fan-base, with the R. S. Surtees Society established in 1979 to promote and celebrate the work of this often overlooked author. Illustrated with 25 tipped-in colour plates by George Denholm Armour. Collated complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with rubbing to the extremities resulting in a small amount of loss. Light fading to the spine. Light offsetting and spotting to the front and rear pastedown and endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot. Very Good Indeed
