London: Bradbury, Agnew & Co. VERY GOOD. Bradbury, Agnew & Co. Preface dated 1852 - no other date indicated. Printed for Subscribers from the plates of the Original Edition. "Subscription Edition" stamped on base of spine. (Does not include Dedication to the Right Honourable Earl Elcho.) A clean, unmarked and unread copy - pages still uncut - with 13 full-page, tissue-guarded, hand-colored steel engravings plus hand-colored illus on title page. Twenty-two full-page woodcuts plus many woodcuts in text. Note that one of the color plates is placed as a Frontispiece rather than facing page 422 as called for in contents. Endpapers toned, otherwise pages and plates are fine - hand coloring bright and unfaded. Bound in bright red cloth over beveled boards with decorative gilt and black stamping front and spine. Cloth and gilt along spine are faded and there is a light stain at the top orf spine; otherwise cover is clean with only light edge wear. Binding tender, front hinge started but holding, rear hinge loose but intact; separation has started between a couple of gatherings but all pages and signatures are holding. Spine and boards are straight and square. 5-1/2 x 8-1/2". xi + 450 pages. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Leech, John.
