New York: The Century Co, 1901. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good. Green cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in gilt, red and black onto upper board and spine, 12mo (6-7/8 inches [17.6 cm] tall), pp. 153, illustrated title page. Volume with modest wear, scuffs and bumps, text block with an occasional spot of soil and a thin tide line to top edge of some leaves (aprox. 24) not affecting text, else text unmarked. The first issue, in green cloth with gold sky illustration stamped onto front cover. The author's first book and a very popular story of a southern family coping with poverty and money issues. Successfully filmed four times, the 1934 release starred Pauline Lord and W.C. Fields. The book was also adapted into a radio series which aired from 1935 to 1938. Ref.
