HarperCollins, London, 2000. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Inscribed by Author(s). Reprint - this copy inscribed by the author on the half-title in a rather shaky hand and dated the year of publication. 8vo. 219pp. Black boards lettered in gold at the spine. Illustrated with three maps and fifty-four photographs by the author. Paperstock a little tanned, else a fine copy in lightly rubbed and fractionally dust marked non-price-clipped dust wrapper. A scarce inscribed re-issue of Thesiger's second book, an account of the eight years the author spent living with the indigenous people of the marshlands of southern Iraq. Sadly, this re-issue omits about half of Thesiger's superb photographs which appeared in the original 1964 edition..

Description:
The Polar Publishing Co, 1911. Cloth. Good. 1st Edition; xx, 604pp, illustrated, frontispiece, plus 49 b/w photographic illustrations. Original brown pictorial cloth lettered in gilt. Cook's original purpose in exploring the region west of Greenland was ostensibly to organize a hunting expedition. Just north of Etah, Cook decided that conditions were good enough for an assault on the North Pole, and set out on his journey over the sea ice with two Eskimo companions, two sledges and 26 dogs. Cook is one of the most controversial figures in the history of polar exploration. His supporters claim that he was the hero of the Belgian Antarctic Expedition, the first to climb Mt. McKinley, and the first to stand at the North Pole (allegedly only four days before Robert Peary). Others insist that Cook faked his claims to both Mt. McKinley and the North Pole, and continued a career of deceit by using the mail to defraud investors in a Texas oil promotion, for which he was convicted and spent five years…

New York: Polar Publishing Co, 1911. First edition, large 8vo, pp. xx, [2], 604; frontispiece portrait of Cook, and 49 photographic illustrations on 31 plates, plus other illustrations. and a map in the text; hinges starting, else very good in original pictorial brown cloth. This is the narrative of Cook's supposed journey to the pole which he claims to have reached nearly a year before his rival, Robert E. Peary. Ironically, Cook had been the surgeon on Peary's Arctic expedition of 1891-92. Controversy surrounded this, as well as earlier expeditions of Cook's, and credit for reaching the pole was generally given to Peary, until he, too, was discredited. Credit is now generally given to the Minnesota insurance salesman, Ralph Plaisted (1927-2008) and his three companions, Walt Pederson, Gerry Pitzl and Jean-Luc Bombardier, who were the first to succeed in a surface traverse across the ice in a Ski-Doo snowmobile (a then-novel invention of Canada's Bombardier Company) to the North Pole on 19 April…

Description:
Indianapolis: Dog Ear Publishing, January 2013. Trade Paperback. Fine. Slight reading wear to corners, otherwise pristine. Not from a library. No remainder mark. Not clipped. Not damaged. Suitable for gifting. 163 pages. The 25 authors of this book were volunteers in the first Peace Corps rural community development project in Africa: Sierra Leone, 1965-67. They are also the first group to tell a collective story of Peace Corps volunteers, anywhere. The Peace Corps was in its infancy then, and memories of John Kennedy were strong among the young volunteers. Sierra Leone was also in its infancy in the first few years after independence, before military coups and tribal warfare became common. The authors forthrightly recount their feelings of loneliness and isolation, and their frightening experiences with secret societies and witchcraft, but their uniquely optimistic "can-do" American attitude brought most through a great life experience.

In the Moluccas, he sold the Ruby and purchased the Nautilus; correspondingly, the test is divided into two sections.
