Known for his many first ascents in the Alps, he was part of a group to make the first attempt to summit Nanga Parbat (8,000 ft), and lost his life there in 1895. Sml 4to, xii, 360pp, frontispiece, and 10 plates. Many illustrations throughout text. Original tan cloth boards, with gilt text on black leather backstrip on spine. Covers dusty, corners bumped. Spine dusty and frayed, chipped at head. Front hinge cracked but holding. Interior clean. OCLC: 3421737.

Soiling to covers & spine, gutter is split (but holding) between pg. 160 and the plate there, title patches are worn. There is no foxing on any of the pages. All 10 plates and frontis are in beautiful condition with tissues present. Top edge gilt. Bookplate on front pastedown. No dust jacket. 7.5 x 10.75 in., 360 pp. Mummery made a number of important ascents in the Alps, especially in the Mont Blanc region. He perished on Nanga Parbat in 1895.
