About This Item

This is the only known surviving My Fair Lady original film script to come to market. The script, which would have been used on set during rehearsals, is dated on its cover as March 15, 1963. In addition to containing the most iconic and memorable lines spoken by Hepburn in the film, the script has typed notes on several added or omitted scenes, and some handwritten marginal notes for timing the actors' lines and blocking the actors' movements during filming: "Additional song and dance sequence will be used here." This rare piece gives a unique glimpse into the detailed and serious preparation Hepburn undertook to make Eliza come to life. Some minor annotations in margins. No script from My Fair Lady has ever come to auction according to our research.

The film stars Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle and Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins, with Stanley Holloway. A critical and commercial success, it became the second highest-grossing film of 1964 and won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.[4] In 1998, the American Film Institute named it the 91st greatest American film of all time. In 2006 it was ranked eighth in the AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals list. The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
