London: John Murray, 1933. First Edition, First Impression First Printing. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A scarce title. No other copies for sale online at time of cataloging. Sir Frederick Pollock (1845-1937), the third baronet, was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1871. He published many influential books on law including 'Principles of Contract at Law and in Equity' (1876), 'The Law of Torts' (1887), and 'Introduction to the History of the Science of Politics' (1890). In 1883 he became Corpus Professor of Jurisprudence at Oxford; he was Professor of Common Law in the Inns of Court from 1884 to 1890, and editor of the Law Quarterly Review from 1885 to 1919. He was involved with several Royal commissions, and had many Honorary degrees conferred upon him. In 1911 he was sworn of the Privy Council. Pollock's interests included philosophy, fencing, travelling, languages, art and music. In 1880 he wrote a life of Spinoza and he also composed verses in Latin, Greek, French, German and Italian. His non-legal publications include 'The Etchingham Letters' (1899), 'Outside the Law' (1927) and 'For my Grandson: Remembrances of an Ancient Victorian' (1933), this being the first edition, first impression of that title. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt titling to spine. Marking to boards and faded spine. Spotting, soiling and age-toning to page edges. Light foxing to front and back matter, 1934 ink inscription to ffep, contents o/w clean without bookplates, inscriptions, foxing or other markings. Firmly bound. xix, 233 pp. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed-for, and insured.
