The author was in her mid-fifties when she disguised herself as a mendicant Buddhist monk, making her way to "Lhasa..after four and a half months' journey through the worst conditions Tibet could offer, she slipped into Lhasa, becoming the first Western woman to ever inter Lhasa. . The author wrote several other fascinating primary resources on Lhasa and her journey.
