About This Item

This is a scarce, inscribed copy of "My Window Sill" by Carroll Carstairs. 1930 1st edition; William Heinemann; London. Gilt top page edges. Also included is the original "Addenda" booklet (softcover with 20 pages, including the covers). Carstairs has written an inscription in pen on the book's front end paper. The book is a collection of 21 numbered poems; the Addenda continues the collection with poems 22-30. Many of the poems are reflections upon World War I. Carstairs, a noted American art dealer, had posed as a Canadian in order to serve with the British Army in World War I. Many of the poems in this collection reflect upon his days during the war - for example, "The Million Dead," "Field Burial," "Armistice 1918," "The Company Commander," "In Memoriam (To G.G., killed in action)"...and more. A scarce 1st edition, inscribed copy accompanied by the original "Addenda."

Condition:
Clean back cover and spine; there are 2, tiny white specks on the front cover...otherwise clean. Sharp cover corners. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Bright gilt top page edges Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the text pages are lightly age-toned (though not brittle) and clean; foxing to the end papers and pastedowns. Author inscription written in pen on front end paper. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition.
