About This Item

Racine, Wisconsin: Whitman Publishing Co., 1925. First Edition Later Printing . Hardcover. Good+/Good+. Book #2 in the short-lived Whitman mystery series for girls featuring teenager Nancy Brandon, written by one of the Stratemeyer Syndicate's most prolific children's series writers, this one under her own name. "There is no moralizing but a personal appeal for a greater & better idealism in our growing girlhood,'' as Nancy helps a wealthy but badly spoiled cousin...develop a better & more noble character" while solving a mystery in New Hampshire. In 300 pages + unnumbered pages listing other Whitman children's series books in rear. Orig. published in 1925, this is the same text as the First Edition, now in the Second State DJ updated for girls in the 1940s with a more "modern" look. Hardcover 12mo has light green cloth over boards stamped with black lettering to front & spine. Book is slightly larger than the original issues. Condition is Good+: generally very clean, text block strong, but both hinges cracked. Pages heavily tanned but unmarked; some light chipping at fore edge to some. Minor rubbing to extremities. The unclipped DJ is also Good+: colorful & bright, with many small chips & general edgewear, heaviest at corners & both ends of spine; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free!
