About This Item

London: R. Ackermann, 1815. [4], 400pp, [10]. Rebound in full morocco by Zaehnsdorf, raised bands, spine in six panels, title in gilt to second panel, remaining panels filled with small flower heads, roundels and pointille, covers with an inner double fillet panel with elaborate corner pieces, an outer double fillet panel and an elaborate rolled frame of flowery stems and pointille, gilt roll to edges, gilt to inner edges, t.e.g. and marbled endpapers. Outer joints rubbed with some minor splitting, but holding, rubbed to extremities. Internally text is browned throughout, a few instances of small tears and chips to edges. Plates are tissue-guarded, these with off-setting, plates generally clean, though smaller than the text leaves. Lacking the preface leaves (pages 3-4), 'list of plates' leaf bound in at rear. With frontispiece, additional colour title page, double page map, single page map and fourteen plates as called for.
