Johns.... 1816. 8vo. 23cm, first edition, xiv,289,[i]p., appendix, engraved frontis portrait, 2 folding tables, rebound in modern brown leatherette, gilt titles, raised bands, new endpapers, original spine with paper label loosely inserted in back, a very good to fine copy.(cgc). T.P.L. 1000 (1 folding table), Lande 1964. Sabin 44716. Story p516. DCB. The author served as a Methodist minister in Nova Scotia, with visits to New Brunswick, from 1800 to 1808, when he went to Somers' Islands, Bermuda. The work recounts his experiences on the discomforts of missionary life in the climate and pioneer condition in British North America and those of his subsequent years in Bermuda. The first edition contains some of his verse: A Farewell to Nova Scotia, and others. He also describes his detention in New York on his way home to England after the outbreak of the War of 1812 and gives an account of American preparations to invade Canada in 1814.
