Twenty-four page narrative of winter hardships suffered in the Vermont wilderness as recorded by a 30 year old settler in 1789, with Introduction by the publisher. This Narrative is followed by a one page poem (author unknown) titled "Joy and Trouble." Booklet 7 ½ x 5 inches; Introduction I-V and 24 numbered pages; stitched binding. Text printed on Strathmore paper. Frontispiece titled "A Home in the Wilderness." Text on verso of title page states: "Edition of ninety-five copies, of which thirty are on large paper and thirteen on Whatman's drawing paper"; this text followed by "No.____" (on this copy left blank). Exceptionally good condition, covers and contents clean and bright. Full title, as reproduced in the booklet, is "A Narrative of the Sufferings of Seth Hubbell & Family, in his Beginning A Settlement in the Town of Wolcott, in the State of Vermont. Danville, Vt.... 1824." Hatch states the text was found "years ago" on the floor of "a dingy garret of an isolated farmhouse." In interesting ephemeral item in excellent condition. .
