About This Item

Washington, DC: National Geographic Society , 2015. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. New. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. New; pristine. See scans and description. Washington, DC: National Geographic Society, 2015. National Geographic Strange But True - Secrets of the Supernatural Revealed. Special Publication, as noted. Quarto, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 112 pp. New; pristine and flawless, and in protective archival storage since acquisition. National Geographic - with its usual top-quality text and graphics - takes a look at some of the better known directions of the paranormal - although, truth be told, many of those selected here have been at least tentatively explained or have strong speculative explanations. To their credit, though - and despite the intentionally titillating subheader, which they probably should have tossed - NGS has herein mostly avoided knee-jerkism - both junk-debunking and crash believing. They have avoided the relatively scarce truly-inexplicable phenomena, those for which there is not yet any ready explanation or textured objective speculation - on any side. The ones to which any objective observer has to say, objectively, 'I don't know - yet'. Perhaps those tougher ones will be the stuff of the next special publication on the subject for NGS. For now, this is indeed a fun, absorbing, and graphically engaging introduction to both curiously aberrant folklore and the not-yet-analyzable uncharted events of physical reality. Very nice browse-and-read, especially for the topic newcomer. LG9
