Bungay: Printed and published by Brightly & Childs. Published also by T Kinnersley, 1815 A fair 2 volume set in contemporary full leather bindings with 118 of 152 hand-coloured plates. As is usual with the Bungay publications, the paper quality is poor, being soft and fragile and prone to staining/toning. The plate collation is always haphazard and although the birds are said to be 'accurately coloured from nature', the colouring is rudimentary. An interesting work however. This set has the original full leather boards with gilt lining, and newer leather spines with raised bands, gilt decoration and title labels. There is wear to corners but the bindings are in very good clean condition. Contents: vol I: 586pp, 67 plates - a couple of pages have repaired tears and the plate at p147 has some smudging. Vol II: 700pp, 51 plates - a couple of repaired edge tears; some corner tips missing; small ink marks pp 100, 101; some marking pp 237-9; badly foxed section pp 313-357. Please ask for additional images if you would like to further assess condition.
