About This Item

Washington: U.S. Bureau of Fisheries, 1907. First edition.. A fine (as new) copy.. Pp. 191-231; 15 full page plates (fine photogravures and line-drawings). Later dark blue cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, sm 4to. Bulletin of the U. S. Bureau of Fisheries for 1907 - Document no. 69. This work describes the entire natural history of shipworms. This monograph builds on many studies of shipworms in the 19th and 18th centuries. During the past all ship hulls and many dykes, like those in Holland, were made of wood. This is an interesting historical review of a pest that causes much economic damage in the past. No ownership marks.
