EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS, 1835 A good to very good copy of the 1st edition in the publisher's original cloth binding. With volume listing; half title; black and white frontispiece portrait of Camper; hand coloured vignette title page showing a red deer stag; 2 further title pages; publisher's advert; Memoir of Camper; text with numerous illustrations and 33 plates, of which 31 are hand coloured; and publisher's catalogue 7pp. The binding is clean and sound with relatively little fading apart from the board edges. Spine ends are pulled with some small splitting starting at the top end. Bottom front corner with tiny bump; remaining corners with light wear. Internally there is the decorative bookplate of Francis Hemming, the entomologist, on the front pastedown endpaper. Text pages have light toning to margins and some darkening along the top page edges. Plates are clean and well coloured with light toning towards the edges. Plate 13 has a repaired tear to the top edge. There is light offsetting from plates to tissue guards.
