London and New York - John Tallis and Company, 1851 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A scarce and beautifully illustrated mid nineteenth century children's guide to natural history. With bookseller's labels for Watkins, Castle Square, Swansea, to the front pastedowns. Featuring over 300 coloured engravings. With an illustrated titlepage and afold out frontispiece to Volume I. With ink inscriptions to the front blanks reading: 'Sarah Mary Bourne. Tything, Worcester. June 1st 1853. The Gift of her Affectionate Father and Mother'. DatedfromCopac. Complete in two volumes. Condition: In uniform half calf bindings. Externally, some shelfwear. The hinges are slightly strained and have been previously reinforced. Internally, generally firmly bound, although the 'St Bernard Dog' plate is detached but present. Occasional light foxing to pages and plates. Loss to lower outer corner of Index of Volume II. There are professional repairs to the fold out frontispiece. The 'Quail' plate in Volume II has been previously reinforced. Overall: VERY GOOD..
