Moderate cracking to gutters and hinges causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

A collection of letters written by naturalist Gilbert White (1720-1793), this volume details the plant and animal life in the region around Selborne, the parish in which White lived and worked as a cleric; the letters were written to Thomas Pennant and Daines Barrington, naturalists and friends of White. The book describes the natural world of eighteenth-century England in a scientific and accessible way.
Illustrating this volume is John Nash (1897-1977), a British painter and botanical artist, who renders the gentle landscapes and animals in the text with clarity and simple beauty.

With announcement, one sheet, and LEC Monthly Newsletter, one sheet folded once to make four pages, with a horizontal crease for mailing. In a glassine wrapper, housed in a slipcase covered in green paper with same allover pattern in white, with cream paper spine label with black lettering and rules.
___CONDITION: A fine copy, the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; clean, crisp, as new. The announcement and Monthly Newsletter are fine, clean, without wear. The glassine wrapper is fine, clean, with very light edge wear at the corners and tail of the spine, and a shallow crease to the front panel, else fine. The slipcase is fine, strong and sturdy, clean, without wear but for light rubbing to the bottom edge.
