The Naturalist's Library, Entomology Vol. VII, Exotic Moths

by James Duncan, Sir William Jardine (editor)

Condition: Very Good/N

EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS, 1841 A very good copy of the 1st edition of Exotic Moths in the original publisher's cloth binding. With listing of the Naturalist's Library; black and white engraved frontispiece of Latreille; hand coloured vignette title page; 2 further title pages; an advert; contents listing; Memoir of Latreille; text; 2 black and white plates relating to Latreille; and 30 further plates of which 29 are hand coloured and one is double size. The binding has had an expert cloth case repair relaying the spine and is therefore sound and tight. There is a small identation to the edge of the front board, some lighter patches on the back board and the corners are lightly bumped. The original green endpapers are present with repair to joint area. There is the bookplate of Francis Hemming, a noted entomologist who specialised in the Lepidoptera, to the front pastedown endpaper. There has been expert paper repair to a couple of side margins and text page 73 has lost its top corner having been badly opened. Much of the later text is unopened. Contents clean - text pages have browning to top margins, plates generally clean and well coloured.
