About This Item
1843 FISH ART 1ed Jardine Naturalist Ichthyology Fishing Guiana Natural History
A significantly rare first edition of volume five of 'Ichyology' from Sir William Jardine's 'Naturalist's Library' entitled, 'The Natural History of the Fishes of Guiana.' Edited by Sir William Jardine and written by Robert H. Schomburgk, Esq., this work provides a fascinating 19th-century survey on aquatic wildlife. This scientific treatise provides 30 beautifully hand-colored engraved plates depicting a variety of fish native to the Guianas located in Northeast South America such as porcupine acanthicus, shark-tailed hypostoma, black doras, tiger pimelodus, flat-headed platystoma, piranha saw-bellied salmon, carp, fishing implements, and much more! Also included is a portrait and memoir of Swiss traveller and Orientalist, John Lewis Burckhardt.
