Description:
London: William Heinemann. 1895. Octavo Size [approx 15.5 x 22.8cm]. Good Condition. Appears to have been specially rebound as this copy is in cloth with half-leather. Raised bands and gilt to leather spine. Marbled endpapers. Leather is rubbed at edges and has some marking where it looks like tape has been removed and spine is dulled. Hinges have been reinforced by blue tape at both endpapers - although there is still some cracking to the paper at the hinge between ffep and flyleaf. The interior is excellent with only the faintest yellowing to page edges. 275 pages. A novel the result of a unusual [for Kipling] collaboration with another. Balestier was an American writer who died shortly after this book was completed. Kipling later married Balestier's sister, Carrie and one of their early homes in Vermont was called after this book - although with the correct spelling 'Naulakha'. This rebound copy also has the corrected spelling on the leather spine. . 3rd Edition. Hardback.
