About This Item
New York: Harper and Brothers, 1913. First Edition. Very good +.. A lovely presentation copy with, perhaps, an unfortunate inscription given the author's treatment of venereal disease in the text. A strange drama unleashed against fornication and venereal disease, set in a contemporary family; the necessary evil of the title is marriage. 111pp. Hardcover. 8vo. Purple decorated cloth. Gilt titles to front, spine. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR in year of publication to first endpaper: "To Miss Evelyn A Newman / from her affectionate / Charles Rann Kennedy. / "God's name burns in me, too!" / February 16 1913." Spine cloth toned. Light wear at lower ends. Generally sound, clean.
