About This Item

UK,slim 12mo p/back,1st edn.[Originally and first published in UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,by William Collins, 1971.This edn/issue is the title's first UK appearance,as a paperback,1st edn.] VG+.No owner inscrptn, and no price removal from cover.Bright, crisp, clean, glossy, colour pictorial artwork by Tom Adams, illustrated front cover, featuring the Camellia house at Chiswick House in London, where even the shape of the tree is quite recognisable in his depiction. The artwork is strikingly notable for either its stylized still-life tableau or surrealist collages. Adams continued illustrating the covers for Agatha Christie's p/backs,for twenty-eight years - from 1962 to 1980.
Front cover with dusky pink(?) and black lettering, white spine with Fontana logo, black lettering and partial ISBN number to foot and NO reading creases present, rear cover with story extract and critics' reviews in dusky-pink+black text; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corner tips - front lower corner with the only corner crease - no nicks, tears or splits present. Some inevitable, but very minor, minimal, superficial scoring/indents - all without any penetration. All edges aged/toned but all without any other blemish; contents bright, tight, clean other than page-edge toning, solid and sound and without intentional dog-ear reading creases to pages tips.An accidental, but small, uniform, consecutive, top corners creases to pp9-12 - else would appear unread, apart from my own collation.UK,slim 12mo p/back 1st edn,7-192pp [paginated] includes 23 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, and contents list/table.
Described hard, but fairly and honestly - it's only the corner crease, toning and accidental page corner creases preventing a higher grade.Still an acceptable and presentable example for collectors.
A letter from a dead friend promises Miss Marple a large reward for investigating a crime - without telling her who was involved,or when it happened!
When she accepts, she is given a reservation for a coach tour of historic homes and gardens. She has fifteen fellow-passengers - and one of them must know a murderer's secret. . .
Thomas Charles Renwick Adams [Tom Adams b. 1926 – d. 2019] was a US-born Anglo-Scots illustrator and painter. Active in a variety of visual formats,he is known for his work in book cover art, portrait painting, poster, advertising and album art.
He is most widely known for his book cover art for the UK, US and continental paperback editions of Agatha Christie crime novels.Tom Adams continued illustrating Christie's paperback covers for 28 years. He began with 'A Murder is Announced' and ended with 'Miss Marple's Final Cases' in 1979,within that period and totalling around 150 different paintings for her publishers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Synopsis

E-book exclusive extras:1) Christie biographer Charles Osborne's essay on Nemesis;2) "The Marples": the complete guide to all the cases of crime literature's foremost female detective.Even the unflappable Miss Marple is astounded as she reads the letter addressed to her on instructions from the recently deceased tycoon Mr Jason Rafiel, whom she had met on holiday in the West Indies (A Caribbean Mystery). Recognising in her a natural flair for justice and a genius for crime-solving, Mr Rafiel has bequeathed to Miss Marple a £20,000 legacy—and a legacy of an entirely different sort. For he has asked Miss Marple to investigate…his own murder. The only problem is, Mr Rafiel has failed to name a suspect or suspects. And, whoever they are, they will certainly be determined to thwart Miss Marple’s inquiries—no matter what it will take to stop her.Of note: Nemesis is the last Jane Marple mystery that Agatha Christie wrote—though not the last Marple published.
