About This Item

1672 Court Songs & Poems 1ed Poetaster Robert Veel English Charles VIII France

Robert Veel was a 17th-century English poet, who, according to most poet scholars, was a poetaster or…inferior poet. While living a rather less-than upright lifestyle, Veel was eager to fund his habits and life of folly, Veel wrote poetic verses in hopes to amuse others. He died at only 28 years old, but before he passed, Veel published, in 1672, a collection of long songs, poetic verses, and drinking shanties called "New Court Songs and Poems". One is particularly curious – a love song from Charles VIII of France!
