London: Edward Stanford, 1889. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. x, [2], 316 p. 22 cm. 3 fold-out colour maps and 8 b&w illustrations. Half leather with marbled boards. New spine label. Corners a little worn, some scuffs to leather, gold wearing thin on spine. Some label residue on front pastedown. Light foxing.
The first half of this book details the author's impressions during his third visit to Canada, in which he reaches the West on the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Rockies to Vancouver and Victoria. Chapters VII to IX describe farming conditions and prospects for emigrants in Manitoba. Barneby returned home to his native Herefordshire via San Francisco, Japan, China, Ceylon and Egypt.
