New York.: Singer Sewing Machine Company.. 1938.. 20 pp booklet, 10.5 x 8 inches, paper covers, with numerous color illustrations. Fall and Winter 1938. Crease to back cover, 2 inch separation along bottom of spine; also 1 inch tear and crease at bottom of front cover at spine edge, otherwise very good clean condition. Focus of the booklet is on the female owner using her sewing machine to create dresses from patterns available from a variety of companies (Butterick, McCall's, Vogue, etc.). Home decorating is a secondary focus with page after page depicting use of the machine to create slip covers, drapes, bedspreads, skirts for dressing tables, etc. The back page features a pictorial photo-narrative involving three college-age sisters who, desperate for new gowns to wear to "the biggest party of the year," take sewing lessons on the Singer machine, whipping together "three dresses for the price of one!" The last pictorial panel depicts the pastel gowned sisters wearing their new frocks; the caption reads: "The girls are the best dressed at the party, and have snared several week-end invitations plus dates for the big football game." Oh please. .
