New York: Sinclair Tousey, 1863. Hardcover. 12mo. Half dark grey calf with gilt spine lettering, rules and devices and grey marbled paper over boards. 42pp, (1p ad), (28pp blank). Near fine. Mild age toning of text pages; bookplate on front pastedown. The book that started it all: A handsome custom-bound first edition of this satire written in epic Biblical style, with much Lincoln and Civil War commentary. It spawned a couple of sequels -- "Book Second" later the same year and "Book Third" in 1864, the trio then published together in one volume in 1866. HOWES W368. MONAGHAN 256.
