In this example the front cover is embossed with a center panel of cross hatched squares framed with bowed ribbon and framed again with multiple line tool, creating an extending frame effect. Facing Frontispiece and Title page have woodcut illustrations. A significant and uncommon first publication by this early American publisher. Andrus was a bookbinder and bookseller in Hartford Connecticut who branched out into book publishing in 1820. This New Testament is one of the first he published. There is a gift inscription written with pen and ink, dated 1826 and 1835 (?) on the ffep, which has been repaired with cellulose tape. Heavily worn edges along with rubbing.
