About This Item

London: G. G. and J. Robinson. Very Good with No dust jacket as issued. 1796. First Edition. Hardcover. Small darkened imprints on front and rear end-papers from leather points at fore-edge and along the bottom and top edges of both end-papers, extending 1 1/4" out from spine and 3/16" high, from leather at and near spine. E-mail for photos. A very few instances of inked annotation in margins. Page 123-124 in Vol. II has a tear that has been professionally repaired, most likely at time of rebind, tiny loss to text on page 123. Very minimal foxing to pages, plates and fold-out plates. ; Vol. I - 288 pages, Vol. II - 383 pp. , Vol. III - 488 pp. 22 plates (several folding) and the bound-in folded map all present and in very good condition. Previous owner name inked in all three volumes along the top edge of the title pages with a small flourish below, "John Boyne" and what appears to be "Jun" following (short for Junior? ). Irish water-colour artist of that time-period - possibly - only a speculative guess on my part. Likely early or mid-twentieth century rebind, with new end-papers, quarter leather binding which is light brown/tan with raised bands on spine. The rest of covers are paper over boards in a gray-ish with light brown and white swirl pattern. .
