About This Item
New York: Pictorial Maps, Inc., [1963] First edition. Map folded in booklet with 48 page guide book in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. Map unfolds to approx.43 x 33.5 inches. A very good copy in original wrappers. The great map of mid-century Manhattan based on thousands of aerial photographs (reproduced with a forgivable lack of fidelity), showing axonometric representations of every building in mid-town Manhattan from the Central Park to approximately 20th St. The map was commissioned for exhibition at the 1964 World's Fair, and Bollmann here reproduced it in a smaller scale for this multilingual New York guidebook. (Manhattan in Maps p. 152; The Greatest Grid 177) .
