About This Item

1942. Very good condition. Ten large black and white real photographs showing the construction of a pontoon bridge in Egypt north of Cairo by New Zealand engineers, in order to move an airplane across a river. The outer most sections of the wings and the propellor have been removed in order to facilitate the move. The plane is shown being hauled by men pulling ropes towards the bridge; locals stand and watch along the river bank.

Rubber stamp at verso with manuscript date reads: "Photographic Section, date 28/12/42, R. N. A. R. Y FAYID". The photographs are standard size, measuring 7 x 5 1/2", tipped in via cornering. Housed in stiff brown paper covers, with 3 rusted staples, 8 1/2 x 13 1/2". The covers titled by hand in pen, "Zagazig, 1st Dec. 1942", and a name below struck through in pen, possibly W. A. Watterson"
