London: Oxford University Press. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. 1962. Re-issue; First Printing. Hardcover. Originally published in an edition limited to 200 in 1959. This is the 1st re-issue by the OUP, and printed by Vivian Ridler at the Oxford University Press in 1962. In the original publisher's light mustard coloured cloth hardback, with deep black titling to the spine, with a black illustration on the front cover. A slight bump to the bottom front corner but no damage, and the rest of the covers are crisp and clean. In the publisher's dust-jacket, lettered in black with a red illustration to the front - the illustration repeated in black on the boards. The d/j is price-clipped but is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Fine. Internally NO Inscriptions or marks - looks unread. 100pp. Illustrated in b/w. Introduction with footnotes & references. Facsimile with transcriptions - translations & comments. 32 plates of specimens. 4 Appendices: - 1 = "Signior Lustiniano, wryting Mecanicall pedant" from Westward-Hoe 1607. 2 = Vautroulier and the Pirates: a letter from James Lowsone 1583. 3 = Sources of some of the texts. 4 = Select Bibliography. Colophon. "Every writing master would own a collection of exemplars of common hands (both book and court) for teaching purposes. 'A Newe Booke of Copies' is one such collection".
