Newport 300 Committee, 2022 Book. New. Hardcover. Newport, County Mayo celebrated its 300th birthday in April 2020. John Moore discovered a deed of indenture between Thomas Medleycott and John Pratt signed on 2nd April 1720 setting up the town. The book contains 47 chapters on John Pratt and the Medleycott family, Land Agency of James Moore, the O'Donnell's. the Rebellion of 1798, The Great Famine, Newport Poor Law Union and the workhouse, Newport's linen industry and the railway through Newport. There are also chapters on the Encumbered Estates court, education, fairs and agriculture, industry and trade and law and order, Martin Carey and other past residents, medicine, religion, transport and communication, sport and leisure and Newport in 1920. The remaining chapters give details of the occupants of each house in the town. There are 3446 names in the index.
