'The Nice and The Good' was Iris Murdoch's eleventh novel. It was also shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1969. In terms of genre, the novel combines elements of the thriller and romantic comedy genres. In original unclipped dustwrapper. With the signature of Hermione, Countess of Ranfurly to the recto of front pastedown. Hermione Ranfurly is notably remembered for her war-time memoirs 'To War With Whittaker: The Wartime Diaries of the Countess of Ranfurly'. Iris Murdoch was an English novelist and philosopher. She was best known for the subjects of her work being about good and evil, sexual relationships, morality and the power of the unconscious. In a full cloth binding, in the original dustwrapper. Externally, in an excellent condition with little to no shelfwear. Dustwrapper is in an excellent condition with minor shelfwear to the head of spine. Gift inscription to the recto of front endpaper, H Ivan De Keenal January 1968. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Near Fine
Synopsis
IRIS MURDOCH was born in Dublin in 1919 of Anglo-Irish parents. She went to Badminton School, Bristol, and read classics at Somerville College, Oxford. In 1948 she returned to Oxford where she became a fellow of St. Anne's college. Awarded the CBE in 1976, Iris Murdoch was made a DBE in the 1987 New Year's Honours List. She died in 1999.
